Savannah, Ga.—University Housing Services Inc. is developing The Hue, a loft-style, off-campus student housing community in the heart of historic Savannah, Ga., which will provide housing for 446 Savannah College of Art & Design students when it opens next September.
Owned by Atlanta-based Stonemont Financial, the 213,500-square-foot student housing community began construction in August and will feature a 25,000-gallon lounge pool, gallery space, an entertaining and semi-private gathering space, a fitness center with cardio equipment and free weights, 24-hour clubhouse and a business center. The design also calls for 3,600 square feet of ground floor retail and a 330-space, two-level parking garage, which includes visitor parking.
“We identified a real deficiency in purpose-built, off-campus student housing options for SCAD students, and The Hue will not only fill that void, but will also exceed student’s expectations of college living,” Bob McMahon, principal of Stonemont Financial Group, says.
The Hue will offer a variety of modern floor plans, including one-bedroom studios, two-, three- and four-bedroom suites and three-bedroom townhouses. Several third- and fourth-floor units will offer views of the Savannah River. All residents will have granite countertops in the kitchen and each bathroom, GE Silver Series appliances, and a full-size washer and dryer. Apartments are fully furnished and will be leased by the bed. Cable and high-speed Wi-Fi will be complimentary, and water and electricity are included with a cap.
“Our goal in designing this project was to provide students with a secure living environment, filled with amenities, all within steps of Savannah’s downtown attractions,” Zack Markwell, principal of Stonemont Financial Group, says.
Located just across the street from SCAD’s Alexander Hall, The Hue will be adjacent to several SCAD classroom buildings and the community will be close to the Bee Line, river waterfront, trolley, community gardens, a museum and other popular locales.
The Hue will be leased and managed by Asset Campus Housing. During construction, a temporary leasing center will open off-site at 214 Drayton Street right next to Parker’s Market.
UHS has developed more than 20,000 student-housing beds for higher-education institutions throughout the country.
