San Francisco—As technology continues to progress, multifamily buildings are faced with the challenge of meeting resident wants and needs. So far, only individuals who could conveniently work an Electric Vehicle (EV) into their current lifestyle made the switch. The main buyers of the vehicles have been people with easy access to charging, probably through their own private garage and power source.

According to the Electric Vehicle Initiative, approximately 20 million EV could be on the road by 2020. Developers and property managers will have to decide how to support resident requests for EV charging in shared parking garages.

In the past, properties have ignored the fact that residents charge off 110v outlets, dismissed EV requests, or allowed residents to setup chargers off common area power. These residents may be “stealing” power from the building, creating potential fire hazards and obstructing EV growth potential by taking up all available power. The result of this is the need to upgrade infrastructure sooner.

EverCharge provides an accessible, fully managed charging solution to HOA, building owners and residents while increasing charging capacity by up to 10 times through proprietary power management technology. It consists of: a dedicated wall mounted charger, power management technology, liability insurance coverage, HOA reimbursement for power, support and maintenance, and full service that manages everything from installation to permitting.

The charging stations are installed directly in residents’ assigned parking spaces for their exclusive use. EverCharge keeps track of the power that a resident uses, bills them accordingly and reimburses the HOA or building owner automatically so they aren’t paying extra for a resident’s power.

“EV customers love us because we’re making their dream of owning a Tesla in a condo possible,” EverCharge CEO Jason Applebaum told MHN.

Launched in 2013, EverCharge answered the EV charging needs of condominium and apartment developments, including numerous signature buildings in Miami and San Francisco. With a couple years of experience, EverCharge has now expanded nationwide.
