Novare Group and Batson-Cook Development Co. will open SkyHouse Uptown’s South Tower on June 22. The upscale mixed-use project is the companies’ second 24-story apartment building with street-level retail in the Fourth Ward neighborhood of Charlotte, N.C. The SkyHouse team includes general contractor Batson-Cook Construction and architect Smallwood, Reynolds, Stewart, Stewart. BBVA Compass and SMBC provided construction financing.
Located at 640 N. Church St., adjacent to the first 24-story building, the second SkyHouse Uptown tower is a mirror image. The multifamily asset is just a nine-minute walk from Trade & Tryon. Both towers are close to the three-acre Fourth Ward Park, Johnson and Wales University, Bank of America Stadium, Discovery Place, and the Mint Museum. According to Yardi Matrix data, the community’s unit mix comprises 80 studios, 166 one-, 72 two- and 18 three-bedroom units ranging from 546 square feet to 1,510 square feet. Combined, the two towers feature 672 luxury apartments.
The project also has a bike repair shop and bike storage, a dog walk area and a dog wash area. The new tower boasts a club house, fitness center, swimming pool and an outdoor kitchen on the top floor, all with skyline views of the Queen City. SkyHouse Uptown North includes 8,387 square feet of retail space.
Exclusive open park
The towers adjoin at SkyPark, an almost one-acre open park on top of the parking deck with a tennis court, an athletic field and two bocce ball courts. There are also pergolas, several grilling and seating areas with fire pits and a walking trail. SkyPark is for the exclusive use of SkyHouse residents.
“The second tower coming on line is very exciting for our partnership and the future residents, who will be part of one of the premier multifamily communities in the Southeast,” said Novare Group President Jim Borders, in a prepared statement.
The SkyHouse Uptown South Tower is the 17th SkyHouse delivered by the partnership this real estate cycle, following projects in Atlanta, Austin, Texas, Dallas, Houston, Charlotte, N.C., Tampa, Fla., Denver, Orlando, Fla., Nashville, Tenn., and Raleigh, N.C. The SkyHouse program has started or delivered more than $1.5 billion in new mixed-use development.
