Katowice, Poland—Skanska Property Poland recently announced the official opening of the first building in its Silesia Business Park, located in the city of Katowice. The office development is the company’s first venture in the city, but the first building is already gathering tenants, with 79 percent of the available space currently under contract. According to Skanska, building B in the Silesia Business Park started construction in August 2014, and is set for a Q3 2015 opening, while the remaining two buildings are still in the planning stage.

Located on Chorzowska Street in Katowice, the project is situated on one of the most important communication arteries in the entire Upper Silesian area. The first building is a showcase of what the project will look like when completed as all four structures will feature nearly 130,000 square feet of office space over 12 floors. The property will also feature around 600 parking spaces both under and above ground, with parking bays for bicycles and charging stations for electric cars. The four buildings will have LEED Gold certification, part of the commitment to getting green office space to the area.

The first building is already a leasing success with just around 20 percent of the office space still available. The main tenant at building A is PwC, who occupies approximately 73,000 square feet, with Skanska’s local units and law firm Sołtysiński Kawecki & Szlęzak also occupying space at the facility. Enel-Med Medical Center signed an agreement at the end of 2014, for about 9,500 square feet of space.

The asset is designed in a way that will generate savings and create a good work environment for office employees. The unique pattern present on the building’s façade is nicknamed “tiramisu” and consists of 26 stripes of black, gold and white color. Silesia Business Park was created by architecture firm Medusa Group, with Skanska S.A. handling contracting duties.
