Scandic Announces New Stavanger Hotel, Will Operate Seven Facilities in Oil Industry-Driven City
Scandic is expanding its operations in the Nowegian city of Stavanger.

Stavanger, Norway –Scandic is expanding its operations in the Nowegian city of Stavanger. The company recently announced that a new facility would be managed by the hotel operator. An in-development property in the downtown area of the city will become the new Scandic Stavanger Congress hotel. When completed, Scandic Stavanger Congress will become the company’s seventh hotel in the financially prosperous city.
The new facility will offer up around 350 rooms, being the largest hotel operated by Scandic in Stavanger. The property will also feature conference facilities and a rooftop terrace that offers views of the nearby harbor. Scandic Stavanger Congress will be fitted with a two-story restaurant, a bar, health club and 15 separate meeting rooms, the largest of which will offer up around 10,700 square feet of space. The project, slated for a 2016 completion, is being developed by Kjell Madland-owned entity Herman Wedels Plass AS.
According to the Managing Director of Scandic Norway, Svein Arild Steen-Mevold, the company’s interest in the city directly linked to the growth of Stavanger’s economic profile over recent years. “The city is growing fast and as the market leader, it is important for Scandic to offer a wide range of hotels.” The President & CEO of Scandic, Frank Fiskers, notes that continuing to develop new venues contributes to the strengthening of the company’s position in the Nordic hotel market.
Stavanger is an important hotbed for hospitality in Norway as the city has become an oil capital of the North over the past decades. Therefore, the demand for quality hospitality has been seriously driven up by the dominant industry, leading to a boom in activity in the hotel sector. Scandic acquired Rica Hotels earlier this year, adding a number of facilities to its local presence. Seeing as the Scandic Stavanger Congress will be the entity’s seventh venue, the company will consolidate its position as the hotel operator with the largest presence in the city.
