Product Spotlight: Carnegie’s PVC-Free Wallcoverings

While it’s important to create an inviting ambiance, there are also many safety and performance requirements that must be considered. For those who don’t want to sacrifice style or quality while meeting the standards of a commercial property, wallpaper seems like a perfect solution. However, most wallcoverings are made of PVC (vinyl) and derived from chlorine chemistry, an environmentally controversial material that many architects, consumer companies and healthcare organizations no longer work with due to possibly harmful effects as a byproduct of its manufacture, use and disposal.

When it comes to keeping up with design trends and complying with today’s strict green expectations, a PVC-free wallcovering gets the job done. Carnegie, the only PVC-free wallcovering company in the industry, just released nine new designs in its Xorel, TPO and Durable Woven lines. The product range offers diverse options for style, price point and performance for all types of commercial projects.

The new designs include:

• Xorel: One of Carnegie’s material inventions, Xorel is a woven textile which exceeds the performance of Type II vinyl. It is very durable, easily cleaned and tear-resistant, all key features for high-traffic commercial areas.

  TPOs (Thermoplastic Olefins): TPOs offer all the design opportunity and practicality of vinyl wallpapers without PVC. Installing TPOs can earn LEED points, and it meets Cal 1350 indoor air quality.

• Durable Wovens: Uniquely woven with durable, high-performance yarn, Durable Wovens offer a natural texture not found in typical wallcoverings. This category lends a soft, comforting aesthetic but delivers excellent abrasion quality.
