Silver Spring, Md.—The Premier Apartments in downtown Silver Spring, Md., celebrated its grand opening on Wednesday, though it’s been leasing units since early this year. Owned by Guardian Realty Investors, the 160-unit property opened in January, but in July Vantage Management took over management of the property. So it was decided that it was time for a party.

The event featured opening remarks and a ribbon-cutting ceremony—as these event often do—but it also had a bit of Hollywood to it. Attendees from the Greater Silver Spring Chamber of Commerce, local government and local media walked down a red carpet in the front of the property and were later given swag bags with items sourced in Silver Spring. Champaign was among the beverages served.

The 14-story property is currently in lease-up. It offers studio, one- and two-bedroom units and is all smoke free; prices range from about $1,500 for a studio up to $2,540 for a two-bedroom. Unit amenities include stainless steel appliances and plank wood flooring.

Common amenities include a lounge area with big screen TVs and Wi-Fi. In lieu of a gym on site, the Premier offers membership at LA Fitness, which is located close to the community. The property is pet friendly and has obtained LEED certification, according to Vantage Management.

Though unincorporated, Silver Spring is a major suburb of Washington, D.C., and has seen significant growth in recent years. Since it isn’t incorporated, population density is a better way than raw population to gauge its growth. According to the Census Bureau, density was up from 8,123.6 people per square mile in 2000 to 9,021.7 people per square mile in 2010. Besides The Premier, recently developed apartments in Silver Spring include The Cameron, The Point, The Veridian, The Portico and The Blairs.
