- Sep 20, 2019
Lendlease and Magellan Development Group have broke ground on two apartment communities in Chicago, Cirrus and Cascade. The two adjacent projects will be developed simultaneously for an expected mid-2021 completion.
Cirrus, located at 211 N. Harbor Drive, offers one-, two-, three- and four-bedroom units in a 47-story building. The 363 apartments in Cirrus also include two townhome residences on the ground level and 15 penthouse units, one of which is a duplex, on floors 42 to 47. The units range in size from 650 to 3,000 square feet with prices between mid $400,000 to more than $4 million.

Billed as a luxury apartment, Cirrus offers more than 48,000 square feet of amenities. The building’s lobby includes a fireplace, 24-hour concierge and the outdoor spaces include a terrace, pool deck with lounge seating, an indoor wet lounge and cabanas. On the interior, residents get access to private workspaces, conference rooms, a social lounge with a fireplace and a conservatory overlooking the nearby parks. The building’s 41st floor is also equipped with a wine cellar with a tasting room, show and prep kitchens with a dining area and chef’s corner lounge, and an outdoor terrace with barbecue and fire pit areas.
But the laundry list of amenities doesn’t stop there as Cirrus also gets access to the neighboring Cascade’s amenities that includes an indoor lap pool, heat therapy pool, children’s playroom, fitness center with yoga and spin options, locker rooms, massage and steam rooms, a game room with golf simulator and billiards, a screening room, a multi-purpose community room, a dog-washing station and an indoor dog run. Cirrus residents also get deeded, underground parking spaces.
Right next to Cirrus, Cascade is a 37-story rental tower that offers 503 units. Unit types, sizes and prices were not available but the building will overlook Cascade Park, a green space that was designed by Claude Cormier + Associates and will connect to the Chicago Riverwalk and lakefront.
BUILDING A BIGGER CHICAGO
Cascade is expecting its first residents in summer 2021 while Cirrus hopes to see tenants by fall 2021. The two towers will be joined by a third residential building, whose details have yet to be announced.
Ted Weldon, Lendlease’s newly-appointed executive general manager of Chicago development, said the towers’ designs are meant to maintain continuity with the surrounding buildings while maximizing the beauty of the site.
