LandSouth Begins Construction on $37M Charleston Community
When completed in December 2019, The Merchant will include 231 units and a pet spa, a bike lounge and a gaming area.
LandSouth Construction has commenced construction on The Merchant, a $37 million luxury apartment community in historic Charleston, S.C.
The community features 231 one- and two-bedroom apartments in 15 floor plans measuring from 565 to 1,074 square feet. Apartments offer vinyl and carpeted flooring, stainless appliances, granite countertops and shaker cabinets, tile backsplashes, glass shower enclosures and washers and dryers.
Common-area amenities include a pool, a clubhouse with gaming area, a fitness center, a yoga studio, a pet spa and a bike lounge. The Merchant occupies six landscaped acres and features 10 three- and four-story buildings. Completion is slated for December 2019.
Pedestrian friendly
“The project is being built with close attention to architectural requirements as well as amenities that professionals demand in a walkable neighborhood, with close proximity to unique eateries, vibrant nightlife, mass transit and convenient shopping,” LandSouth Construction project manager Ryland Thompson told MHN.
The Classic Revival architecture of The Merchant is reflected in stand-alone apartment buildings featuring stucco and brick exteriors with cast stone columns, corbels, detailed cornices and paver sidewalks. Decorative door surrounds, columns and sidelights are additional elements of the formal symmetrical design.
With an address at 15 Huguenin Ave., The Merchant is situated in the NoMo neighborhood of Charleston. Residents will be close to King Street shopping, entertainment and dining. They will be able to easily access the College of Charleston, the iconic Citadel and Fort Sumter national monument.
“The Merchant will be an exceptional addition, not only to NoMo, but to the entire city,” said LandSouth Construction Senior Vice President of Development Joe Passkiewicz. “If you look at a map of the city and the peninsula, this is really the heart. This project is catalytic for spurring jobs in the area. It’s one of the reasons the area is attracting even more professionals to live, work and play in Charleston.”
