John Sweeny has joined CBRE’s Senior Housing Capital Markets team as senior vice president. In his new position, he will oversee investment sales across the U.S.

With more than 15 years of experience in real estate investing and investment banking, with a focus on the senior housing sector, Sweeny has been involved in more than $3 billion of senior housing transactions throughout his career. His experience spans all asset classes, including active adult, independent living, assisted living, memory care and skilled nursing facilities.

Sweeny will partner with Vice Chairman of Senior Housing Aron Will, who specializes in debt and structured finance. CBRE’s current senior housing platform also includes Lisa Widmier, Austin Sacco, Joshua Hausfeld and James Graber. The team focuses on investment sales, debt and structured finance, investment banking, as well as valuation.

Prior to joining CBRE, Texas-based Sweeny served as head of healthcare real estate investments at Virtus Real Estate Capital, a private equity firm involved in alternative real estate asset classes. Beforehand, he served as director at international private equity firm Arcapita.

Last October, CBRE’s senior housing platform assisted the seller and secured acquisition financing in the trade of a 118-unit senior community in Englewood, Fla. Will, Widmier and Sacco were involved in the $23.8 million sale, backed by a $20.8 million, 10-year Freddie Mac loan.
