Pizzuti Renovates, Expands Columbus Community
The first phase in the company's redevelopment effort at the former Grant Oak Apartments is underway. Phase two is slated to begin this fall.

More than one year after signing the agreement to buy the former Grant Oak Apartments community from Columbus Metropolitan Library, Pizzuti has closed on the acquisition and started redeveloping the property under the name of Liberty Park. The company is currently renovating 70 units, which make up the four westernmost buildings, and expects to finalize phase one in the first quarter of 2020. Phase two, which will add a new five-story building, is planned to start this fall and to be delivered next summer.
The task of preserving the historic value of the buildings, which date from the 1940s, has been assigned to Sullivan Bruck Architects. Lupton Rausch Architects Inc. will design the new building, while Elford Inc. will work as general contractor for both projects. Located at 66 S. Grant Ave., at the southeast corner of Grant Avenue and Oak Street in the Discovery District, the community is part of an area which is constantly attracting investors. The property provides residents with quick access to the Grant Hospital, Columbus Museum of Art, Discovery Park and John Glenn Columbus International Airport.

The 70 units provide studio- and one-bedroom floorplans and feature restored parquet floors, wainscoting and built-in bookcases. Capital improvements include completely renovated baths and kitchens featuring quartz countertops and stainless steel appliances as well as new mechanicals and electrical systems.
The developers also changed the entry doors with Thermo-Ash wood surrounds and new entry stoops and handrails. Other improvements include a new landscape, updating the existing courtyards and highlighting the entry plaza which will link the renovated part of the project to the new building.
Phase two is expected to add 80 more units, a structured parking as well as a top-floor amenity space with clubroom and rooftop terrace overlooking Topiary Park. Units will provide a mix of studios, one- and two-bedroom floorplans.
