By Anuradha Kher, Online News EditorBaltimore–The Professional Grounds Management Society (PGMS) has recently started its annual awards process to honor the nation’s top condominium, apartment complex, or planned community grounds management programs with its Green Star Awards.The Green Star Awards program brings national recognition to grounds maintained with a high degree of excellence. The program complements other national landscape award programs that recognize outstanding landscape design and construction by saluting the grounds’ superintendent and staff responsible for maintaining a well-manicured landscape around the year.The society is inviting candidates to apply before Aug. 1. The cost is $150 for PGMS members and $225 for others.In all, grounds management professionals can choose among 15 categories including condominium or apartment complexes. An organization may enter the contest in any number of the categories.Last year, winners in the condominium, apartment complex, or planned community category included Post Uptown Place in Charlotte, N.C., Post Midtown Square in Houston and Post Lindbergh in Atlanta, Ga.Winners will be honored at the 2008 awards banquet in Louisville, Ky. on Oct. 25 at the conclusion of the Society’s 2008 School of Grounds Management & GIE+EXPO.
