New Britain, Conn.—Pennrose is developing The Jefferson, an affordable seniors apartment community located in New Britain, Conn., that is being built in conjunction with the New Britain Housing Authority.
Pennrose, which operates more than 150 affordable, market rate and seniors residential communities in eight states, will manage the property.
“There is a big need for housing for seniors in New Britain and throughout the Hartford metro area,” Josh Hooper, Pennrose Properties’s associate developer, tells MHN. “Like many urban areas in the United States, the population in New Britain has aged in recent years and is projected to do so even more in the future, so housing for seniors is critical to support ‘aging-in-place,’ allowing people to continue to reside in their communities and remain close to family as they age.”
The three-story elevator building will consist of 70 apartments with secure access entry. Each residence features a contemporary design with spacious floor plans, oversized windows and plush, wall-to-wall carpeting in the bedrooms. Modern kitchens are fully equipped, including dishwashers.
Eight of the apartments are handicapped-accessible, and all units have 24-hour emergency call systems in the bedrooms and bathrooms. Energy-saving features include 100 percent Energy Star appliances, solar-assisted hot water and energy-efficient, resident-controlled heating and cooling.
Amenities include an inviting community room, a state-of-the-art fitness center, outdoor patio with picnic area and on-site laundry facilities. The management team will also provide a variety of events and services tailored to meet the needs of residents. In addition, there is on-site maintenance with 24-hour emergency call service.
The first resident move-ins are expected in December. Rents are affordable and vary depending on resident income. To live at The Jefferson, at least one member of each household needs to be age 62 years or older.
“We’re thrilled to make our Connecticut debut with these beautiful new residences for older adults,” Robert J. Lampher, Pennrose Management Company’s president, says. “New Britain is a wonderful city with a wealth of history, friendly people and New England charm, and we look forward to being a part of the community.”
Located in the heart of New Britain and only minutes from downtown, scenic AW Stanley Park and the New Britain Industrial Museum, The Jefferson is close to shopping, dining and entertainment. The CT Transit bus service provides convenient pick-up at the community’s front entrance.
“Our commitment is to provide high-quality, sustainable construction and professional property management for tenants at a variety of income levels,” Hopper says. “The Jefferson fits this philosophy perfectly.”
