Park and Urban Beach Revitalize New Jersey
New Jersey Governor Chris Christie and Richard LeFrak, chairman and CEO of the LeFrak Organization, announced the opening of Newport Green, a 400-acre mixed-use property, the latest development in Jersey City.
Jersey City, N.J.—Jersey City, N.J., is getting revitalized as more and more people discover this cheaper alternative to living in Manhattan. Recently, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie and Richard LeFrak, chairman and CEO of the LeFrak Organization, announced the opening of Newport Green, a 400-acre mixed-use property, the latest development in the area.
The area, which was previously a railroad yard, has 4.25 acres of park, which includes lawns, garden paths and free WiFi. Additionally, it features an urban beach, playground and carousel.
Other unique features of Newport Green include The Oval, a recreational field with an eco-friendly turf surface. There is also a boardwalk and an observation scope that provides views of the Manhattan skyline.
Newport Green was developed by the Newport Associates Development Company (NADC). The park was designed by Mathews Nielsen LandscapeArchitects.
“The opening of Newport Green reinforces the vision we have been successfully executing for Newport since 1986, when we broke ground and began transforming forgotten railroad yards and abandoned warehouses into a thriving waterfront hub of activity,” LeFrak said in a press statement. “The park maximizes Newport’s privileged waterfront location and provides a unique destination for residents and visitors to play, socialize and relax.”
