One Thousand Museum by Zaha Hadid Tops Off in Miami
On track for an early completion in 2018, the 62-story tower is the late Pritzker Prize winner’s first and final residential skyscraper in the Western Hemisphere.

Developers Louis Birdman, Gregg Covin, Kevin Venger and Regalia Group, along with New York-based Plaza Construction, have topped off One Thousand Museum, a 62-story condominium tower in downtown Miami. Designed by Zaha Hadid Architects, the 83-unit project is the late Pritzker Prize winner’s first and final residential skyscraper in the Western Hemisphere.
Located at 1000 Biscayne Blvd., across from Museum Park, One Thousand Museum is on track for an early completion in late 2018. New renderings of the property showcase the project’s sky lounge, double-height aquatic center with indoor pool and a lifestyle center and spa. Further amenities include a bank-quality vault, multimedia theatre and private dining room.
The building will feature a private helipad, currently the only planned helipad on a private residential skyscraper in Florida. Interior construction has already commenced for the amenity spaces, also designed by Zaha Hadid Architects.
Documentary-worthy project
The project’s curved exoskeleton consists of 5,000 pieces of lightweight glass-fiber reinforced concrete (GFRC), making One Thousand Museum the first skyscraper in the world to utilize GFRC as a permanent formwork in the construction of a development’s structure. Due to its complexity and uniqueness, the construction process was detailed in a documentary series titled “Impossible Builds”.
“This is a project that will not only enhance Miami’s skyline but also redefine the standard of luxury for residential projects,” said Brad Meltzer, president of Plaza Construction, in prepared remarks. “We do not shy away from challenging projects, as such we were immediately interested when we saw the overall complexity of the job. To date, the project team has faced some major tests, but the project has remained on schedule and we’re looking forward to the successful completion.”
Developers of One Thousand Museum secured $225 million in construction financing for the development of the project. Also in downtown Miami, Ugo Colombo’s CMC Group landed a $236 million construction loan for Brickell Flatiron, the firm’s newest luxury condominium project in the Brickell Financial District.
