Washington, D.C–As part of the National Multi Housing Council’s (NMHC) ongoing effort to recruit new talent into the apartment industry, the Council has added an internship feature to its online career center and job board. The new feature, which is available at nmhc.org, is designed to encourage undergraduate and graduate students to explore careers in the multifamily industry by getting hands-on experience with the industry’s top employers. Firms can post internships at no charge, and students can search for positions, upload resumes and apply to postings directly through the site.“The number of renters nationwide is projected to increase by almost four million households over the next 10 years,” says NMHC President Doug Bibby.  “To meet that demand, the nation needs to produce at least 250,000 new apartment residences each year, and all of those new apartments will need high-quality staff members to operate them.”“We need to attract newcomers to the industry,” says Bibby. “The NMHC Intern Center will do just that.”Betsy Feigin Befus, NMHC’s vice president of Employment Policy and Special Counsel, says,  “During the internship, many students are surprised to learn how much apartment management has changed in the past 10 years. Once they see what it takes to operate a multi-million dollar asset, they become more likely pursue careers in the multifamily industry.”
