Student housing industry leaders gathered online to discuss the latest trends and best practices in a sector challenged by the coronavirus during the four-day NMHC/InterFace Student Housing conference. American Campus Communities CEO Bill Bayless kicked off the virtual event, jointly held by the National Multifamily Housing Council (NMHC) and France Media, on October 19 with a keynote address on the sector’s recession resiliency during uncertain times.
Over the following three days, industry leaders explored the importance of communication, flexibility and strong internet connectivity in filling beds during the pandemic, how student housing architecture and design need to adapt to the health crisis, and how property managers are preparing for the future. Investors and capital markets experts also discussed expectations for the final quarter of 2020 and student housing financing volume and strategies for the near term.
