NJ Luxury Condos Take Cues from Industrial Past

Hoboken, N.J.—Sales are underway at 1400 Hudson Street, a 12-story luxury condominium building from Toll Brothers City Living, the urban development division of Toll Brothers Inc.

Designed by DeWitt Tishman, the full-service building is part of the upscale Hudson Tea community. Luxurious homes, five-star amenities and time-saving on-site retail are all part of the development in the bustling and popular north end neighborhood of Hoboken.

The development includes 236 residences, from studios to three-bedroom homes, with select homes offering private terraces. The open floor plans feature wide plank oak flooring, modern kitchens with quartz stone countertops, custom wood cabinets and Bosch and Thermador appliances. Custom vanities, large glass showers, Kohler fixtures and rich porcelain floors are among features distinguishing the baths.

Amenities include residents’ lounge, billiard room, 24-hour attended lobby, fitness center, children’s playroom, dog wash room and on-site parking. Residents can access the NY Waterway ferry, and can partake of complimentary shuttle service to the nearby PATH and NJ Transit station. The downtown ferry terminal permits quick and convenient commutes to Manhattan.

The interior design of 1400 Hudson Street takes its cues from its city’s industrial past. Among materials used are polished concrete, rolled metals, wired glass and rich fabrics, complemented by modern detailing. The lobby features a wall emulating old factory windows. A clean, contemporary white ceiling is torn away over the reception desk, revealing exposed rough wood beams, imbuing the setting with a sense of place and importance.

Interior designer Andres Escobar of Escobar Design by Lemay noted, “Our intention is to create a dynamic mix of eclectic yet contemporary spaces that offer comfort and multi-functionality, spaces that not only cater to, but actually enhance the lifestyle of the residents.”

Having acquired the Hudson Tea Buildings in 2003 and converted them to luxury condominiums, Toll Brothers City Living has since built two new condo projects, Harborside Lofts and 1450 Washington, in addition to creating a public waterfront park. One additional condominium project is planned by Toll Brothers for the Hudson Tea community.
