NETGEAR Introduces the Arlo Doorbell and Chime for Smart Homes

NETGEAR has launched two new products aimed at smart home units, the Arlo Audio Doorbell and the Arlo Chime. The latest wireless Arlo devices work in tandem as a modern alternative to the traditional doorbell. The products are slated to make an appearance in retail stores later this year.

The Arlo Audio Doorbell and the Arlo Chime are designed for a DIY setup, requiring little to no technical knowledge. The doorbell is powered by two standard AA batteries and features a weather-resilient finish. As opposed to traditional doorbells, the Arlo device calls a user’s smartphone when someone’s at the door, or, it can activate the Arlo Chime, which can be installed anywhere inside the apartment by plugging it into a standard outlet. Users interact with the devices via the Arlo App, which allows them to control and customize the functionalities of the products. They can talk live with visitors through their smartphones or reply with a prerecorded message if the timing is inconvenient.

Smart security

The smart home devices can be linked with other NETGEAR products, such as the Arlo wireless cameras and security lights, for maximum entryway control. The Chime can produce an alert as loud as an 80-decibel siren in case of emergencies. The combination of the Arlo Doorbell and wireless cameras enables users to identify potential unwanted guests.

A subscription service is also available, enabling customers to access the e911 emergency service, which alerts nearby authorities either at the user’s command, or if it automatically detects a dangerous situation. The service also includes the possibility to store video recordings on a cloud server, for up to 60 days. The plans start at $2.99 per month, per camera, or $9.99 per month for 10 cameras. Arlo is currently offering a one-month free trial of the Smart Premier plan to new subscribers.
