As NJAA Executive Director, Maddalon is responsible for the overall leadership, management and operations of the association. She will oversee the education, media relations and government affairs activities as well as the NJAA’s financial assets.“I am excited to take on this new challenge,” Maddalon says. “Our goal is to foster the stability of the multifamily housing industry to ensure we serve the housing needs of residents in communities throughout the state of New Jersey.” Most recently, Maddalon served as COO of American Business Media (ABM), a national trade association serving the business information industry. In addition to her financial responsibilities with ABM, she played a role in the development of ABM’s governmental affairs initiatives, internship and scholarship programs.HUD Appoints Michael Flynn as Acting General Counsel  Washington, D.C.–Michael Flynn has been appointed to serve as HUD’s (U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development) acting general counsel. Flynn previously served as the general deputy general counsel to the department.Flynn will oversee approximately 370 attorneys and 320 staff at HUD. He will serve as the chief legal advisor to the secretary, deputy secretary and other principal staff, providing advice on federal laws, regulations and policies that affect HUD programs and families served by the HUD. In addition, he will maintain his position as counselor to the HOPE for Homeowners Board of Directors.Prior to HUD, Flynn worked at World Savings Bank in Oakland, Calif. as senior vice president and senior counsel, where he directed lawyers in the company’s mortgage lending business. He takes over for Robert Couch, who served as general counsel since June 2007. Guardian Hires New Portfolio Manager for over 1,300 Units in PhoenixPortland, Ore.–Guardian Management LLC has hired Pam McCarthy as portfolio manager to oversee the company’s more than 1,300 multifamily units in Phoenix and to lead new business development in Arizona.  McCarthy is a certified property manager from the Institute of Real Estate Management (IREM) and teaches real estate courses at the Arizona School of Real Estate. In addition to serving on the board of directors for the Arizona Multihousing Association, McCarthy previously taught classes and chaired the ethics committee for the organization.
