Morristown, N.J.—Mill Creek Residential Trust announced that it has broken ground on Phase I of Latitude, a luxury community in Morristown, N.J., as part of the redevelopment of Speedwell Avenue. This is the first residential development in four years in the area.

“This project signals the start of the Speedwell Avenue Redevelopment that will undoubtedly have a positive and reverberating impact on Morristown, its businesses and, most importantly, its people,” Morristown Mayor Timothy P. Dougherty says. “Beyond the opportunities it will afford our residents and business owners, Latitude will offer those interested in moving to Morristown a truly differentiated and upscale housing option in an acclaimed, walkable downtown location that is near to all of the great amenities our town has to offer.”

The first phase of development will include 268 studios and one-, two- and three-bedroom units, as well as a 350-space parking garage. Additionally, 26 of the units will be made affordable. The apartments will include 9-foot ceilings, walk-in closets and washers and dryers. Select units will also include patios/balconies and loft space.

Amenities at Latitude will include a fitness center, resort-style deck, lounge with fireplace, business center with computer stations and a game room.

“Latitude has a number of great features. Its best, however, is the two-story clubhouse/amenity space within the building that will offer residents a state-of-the-art fitness center and a resort-style rooftop deck,” Rick Murphy, managing director of Mill Creek Residential, tells MHN.

Mill Creek Residential is also the developer for the next two phases of the Speedwell Avenue Redevelopment Area. Construction for all phases is expected to be completed in 2014.

“Residents of Latitude will truly be afforded a work, live, play environment because of the community’s close proximity to walkable, downtown Morristown,” Murphy says. “We are confident that Latitude’s strategic location, as well as its upscale apartment homes and host of lifestyle amenities, will be attractive to a variety of prospective renters who want to call this very unique town home.”
