Middleburg Communities Breaks Ground on Alabama Project
The 290-unit luxury development is located within the nation's second-largest research park in Huntsville.
Middleburg Communities has broken ground on a luxury apartment community within the massive Cummings Research Park in Huntsville, Ala. The 290-unit project, serving one of the nation’s growing tech hubs, is expected to be completed by April 2022, with leasing slated to begin in May 2021.
Dubbed Mosby Bridge Street, the project at 320 Voyager Way NW is located within a federal Opportunity Zone. The property designed by Cline Design Associates will offer a mix of one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments in a quartet of four-story, elevator-serviced buildings. Features of the high-end apartments will include 9-foot ceilings, large walk-in closets, balconies, LVT plank flooring and Nest smart thermostats.
The community will also feature a two-story, 8,100-square-foot clubhouse, a swimming pool, a dog park and grilling stations. Cline Design Associates is the architect of record, interior designer and landscape architect. Middleburg Construction serves as the general contractor while Johnson & Associates is providing civil engineering services.
The site, which neighbors the Northrop Grumman Corp. campus at 301 Voyager Way NW, is within walking distance of Bridge Street Town Centre, an outdoor shopping mall that includes 26 retailers. Surrounding the community is the 3,800-acre research park, the second-largest in the U.S., which is home to nearly 300 companies and more than 30,000 employees and students. Down the road, the Redstone Army Arsenal, NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center and the FBI’s new cybersecurity-focused HQ2 campus provide tens of thousands of additional jobs.
Middleburg Communities recently tapped Kyle Chase to serve as its new director of acquisitions, working out of the firm’s Charlotte, N.C., office. The company, which has acquired and developed more than 19,000 apartment units since 2004, entered the Wilmington, N.C., market late last year with a 250-unit multifamily project called Mosby at Riverlights.
Elsewhere in the fast-growing Huntsville area, Watermark Residential is building a 324-unit, Class A community on 22.5 newly acquired acres in the suburb of Madison. FarmHaus by Watermark is slated for completion in late 2021.
