Hayward, Calif.—Meta Housing Corporation is expanding the Bay Area’s senior housing inventory with the development of a new affordable housing project in Hayward. The company is building a mixed-use community that would provide 60 new affordable senior housing units to the city’s downtown. Meta Housing is developing the project at 808 A St. with partner Community Home Builders and Associates.
Set to take shape on a one-acre lot just two blocks away from the city’s BART station, Downtown Hayward Senior Apartments will include a retail component of roughly 6,000 square feet. Sustainability is one of the developer’s main focuses, with the project lined up to achieve a Green Point Rated 125 or equivalent and LEED Gold Certification or equivalent. The community will feature drought tolerant landscaping in conjunction with the use of a drip irrigation system.
The community’s residents are encouraged to stay active and healthy through an amenity package that includes a large courtyard, community room, computer and multi-media room, outdoor barbecues and tables, communal kitchen, library and fitness center. The unit mix will consist of one- and two-bedroom floorplans.
Downtown Hayward Senior Apartments was financed with the help of Redstone Equity Partners, Enterprise Equity Partners, Citibank, CalHFA, Federal Home Loan Bank of San Francisco, the State of California Department of Housing and Community Development, Alameda County Housing and Community Development Department, California Community Reinvestment Coporation, and the California Tax Credit Allocation Committee.
