Breaking Ground on All-Geothermal Community
McAlister Construction Inc. recently broke ground on a residential development project to feature geothermal cooling and heating systems across 100 percent of its homes.

McAlister Construction Inc. recently broke ground on a residential development project that will feature geothermal cooling and heating systems in every home.
The Avondale development in Moore will be the first of its kind to incorporate geothermal heat pump systems from Oklahoma City-based ClimateMaster. According to a news release, the Tranquility 22 Digital Two-Stage Series geothermal pumps, together with boreholes drilled underneath each home’s front yard will deliver year-round heating and air conditioning.
“As builders, we want to build the most efficient houses in the most cost-effective way,” said Josh Kitchen, McAlister Construction co-owner in a statement. “That is why we already incorporate elements like 2×6 exterior walls, blown-in fiberglass insulation, Low-E Argon gas-filled windows, and even independent third-party energy and air-leakage testing with all our homes.”
According to Kitchen, the 46 Avondale single-family homes are expected to achieve Home Energy Rating System (HERS) Index scores in the 30s and 40s, making them up to 90 percent more efficient than conventional existing homes.
The project is scheduled for completion by April 2015, and will feature 46 homes ranging in size from 1,600 to 2,500 square feet.
