Maplewood Senior Living Breaks Ground on 84-Unit Community

Bethel, Conn.—Construction is underway at Maplewood Senior Living’s newest community, Maplewood at Stony Hill, an assisted living residence that will focus on memory care.

The company, in collaboration with the Bethel Chamber of Commerce, kicked off construction with a ground-breaking ceremony on Sept. 25 at the six-acre site in Bethel along the Route 6 corridor.

A handful of community members were on hand for the event, including Town First Selectman Matthew Knickerbocker and Selectman Richard Straiton, as well as State Senator Michael McLachlan. Maplewood Senior Living Chairman and CEO Gregory D. Smith, the Bethel Chamber of Commerce, Perkins Eastman associate principal Alejandro Knopoff and project manager Meredith Taubin were also on hand.

The state-of-the-art assisted living community—designed by Perkins Eastman—will be aimed at individuals living with early, mid-stage and late-stage Alzheimer’s disease and dementia, and will feature amenities such as libraries, light-filled lobbies, spa, outdoor gardens, terraces and porches that offer countryside and water views and serve as gathering places for residents and visiting families. Additionally, the community residents will enjoy a farm-to-table dining.

The 84-unit Maplewood at Stony Hill, which is scheduled to be completed by next fall, will be comprised of private studio and one-bedroom residences, and is designed with the “small house” concept in mind. The small house approach will feature smaller neighborhoods that will each provide their own set of services and amenities. The goal of this approach is to provide a neighborhood atmosphere that best resembles a true-to-life social model community instead of a larger and more institutionalized facility.
