Mainland Breaks Ground on New Apartment Community in Nashville
The community will be located on the former site of the Special Olympics Tennessee.

Nashville, Tenn.—The former home of Special Olympics Tennessee is being demolished to make room for the new 79-unit Acklen on 12th apartment building. The project is located in the 12South neighborhood at 1900 12th Ave. S.

Mainland Cos., a Nashville-based firm specialized in urban infill development, is the developer of the upcoming multifamily community. The property will consist of four residential stories over two levels of below-grade parking.
“We feel that its size and scope are appropriate for the location, and because our team calls Nashville home, we are intent on building something that the community will be proud of for many years,” Ken Larish, the company’s CEO, said in prepared remarks.
Special Olympics Tennessee relocated from the 0.84-acre site on 12th Avenue South between West Grove and Acklen Avenues to 461 Craighead St. in Berry Hill.
Manuel Zeitlin Architects is the designer of the project and Crain Construction is the general contractor. Construction financing worth $9.7 million was provided by Pinnacle Bank, according to the Nashville Business Journal.
The Acklen on 12th apartment complex is scheduled to open by August 2016.
