Santa Ana, Calif.—Lifescapes International has completed a one-acre rooftop design at the Marke, a new apartment property in Orange County developed by Lyon Communities. The rooftop’s distinction: it’s designed to make residents feel like they’re in Las Vegas (minus the actual gambling). The Marke is five-story, 300-unit apartment community in Santa Ana marketed to millennial and empty-nester residents.
The “Las Vegas-style amenities,” include a resort-style saltwater pool and spa, a bar, an outdoor theater and private cabanas, as well as two clubhouses, one of which includes a two-lane bowling alley, a full bar/restaurant area, and gaming. The second clubhouse is dedicated to a training facility that features Ryan Capretta of Proactive Sports Performance.
But the design is more than amenities, according to Don Brinkerhoff, CEO of Lifescapes International. Flora are also important, and the rooftop uses various combinations of Medjool date palms, Sago palms, Kentia palms, bromiliads and other plants. Brinkerhoff adds that he recommended that the upper building be divided down the middle, allowing for a long vista view toward the exercise area. Also, the addition of five fire pits within the north and south ground-level courtyards provides more outdoor meeting areas for residents.
The Marke also offers various services, including customized health and fitness programs, food and beverage services, private event planning, housekeeping and pet walking, grooming and care. There are also complimentary bike rentals. Christopher Coe Architects designed the property in collaboration with Lifescapes International’s Diego Alessi, Mike Meyers, Roger Voettiner and Mike McIver.
