Branch Properties and general contractor Summit Contracting Group have broken ground on phase 3 of the West Village residential development, a 50-acre mixed-use project in northwest Atlanta.

Located in Smyrna, Ga., about 13 miles northwest of downtown Atlanta, phase 3 of West Village will consist of 313 apartments ranging in size from 660 square feet to 1,484 square feet. The property will offer a mix of studio, one-, two- and three-bedroom units.

Resident amenities at the community will include a 3,000-square-foot public library, a fitness center, dog park, swimming pool, courtyard and 470 parking spaces. The property is expected to be completed in early 2021, with the first units slated to come to the market in spring 2020.

The West Village development began to take shape in 2005, when owner and developer Branch Properties assembled the site. The first phase of construction completed 292 residential units and 68,000 square feet of retail, while the second phase added 188 units in 2011. The development was sold to MidAmerica Apartment Communities in 2014.

A strong economy and job growth last year led the metro Atlanta area to rank third in the nation in rent growth, according to a recent Yardi Matrix report.
