Latch’s Smart Access Devices Expand Footprint

UPS will expand the program enabling the company’s package delivery drivers to use Latch smart access devices to 10 additional cities starting mid-2019. The program, which currently operates in New York and San Francisco, will expand to Atlanta, Chicago, Los Angeles, Houston, Dallas, Washington D.C., Philadelphia, Boston, Miami and Seattle. Owners or property managers of qualifying properties equipped with Latch devices may permit UPS drivers to enter in order to make in-building deliveries.
Using Latch’s smart access system, residents can allow access to their buildings—common areas, not individual apartments—as well as monitor guests using smartphones or other digital credentials. To facilitate and expand smart deliveries, Latch will make its R-Series device, which was available only as part of a full-building system, accessible as a standalone product.
“By expanding into these high-density areas, more residents can benefit,” said Jerome Roberts, UPS’ vice president of global product innovation, in a statement. “Smart access devices enable our drivers to enter buildings without keys and leave packages safely in lobbies or building package rooms. Customers who have used the service say it’s safe and easy for them.
“For UPS, this innovation adds efficiency to our operation by ensuring our drivers make more deliveries on the first attempt,” Roberts added.
