Largest Logistics Facility in Poland to be Developed by Goodman and Leased by Amazon

Wroclaw, Poland—Goodman has recently announced it is developing a 95,000-square-meter (approximately 1 million-square-foot) fulfilment center for Amazon in Wroclaw.

The development will be Amazon’s first fulfilment center in Poland and will also be the largest freestanding logistics facility in the country. Goodman also mentioned another noteworthy achievement: the transaction represents the biggest contract for a logistics warehouse in central Europe to date.

Goodman, a global property group that owns, develops and manages logistics space, started the construction of the facility in October 2013 and plans to complete it in record time, to meet Amazon’s requirements. The facility, which will be leased to Amazon, is scheduled to be fully operational in the second half of 2014.

“We are proud that Amazon chose to enter the Polish market in partnership with Goodman. The facility we are developing will be the largest freestanding logistics property in Poland. Construction will be rapid, to allow Amazon to make full use of the warehouse’s logistics capabilities in under a year,” Blazej Ciesielczak, regional director Goodman Poland, says.

One of the key factors that influenced Amazon’s decision to choose Goodman as the developer of the project was its ability to deliver such a large facility in a short time frame, while also ensuring a high quality end product.

In total, since 2006, Goodman has completed over 9.6 million square feet for Amazon spread across 11 developments in Germany, France and the U.K.

Raimund Paetzmann, director real estate of Amazon, said: “We have decided to partner with Goodman in Poland due to the firm’s extensive experience in building similar warehouse facilities for Amazon in Western Europe and its knowledge of the local logistics market, based on numerous projects completed in Poland.”

According to the plan, Amazon will create up to 2,000 long-term jobs at the facility, plus an extra 3,000 seasonal jobs to cover the peak times during the holiday season.

Located in Wroclaw’s Bielany Wroclawskie suburb, approximately three miles from the city center, Amazon’s new distribution center will be the fifth development project for Goodman in the Wroclaw area. The other facilities, totaling over 750,000 square feet, have been built for Whirlpool, TJX Europe, Walki Group and Casetech.
