La Casa Norte Housing and Community Center Coming to Chicago
The $18.5 million project will expand affordable housing and support an additional 2,000 individuals in need.

Chicago—Mayor Rahm Emanuel and La Casa Norte Executive Director Sol Flores have recently announced construction plans for the new La Casa Norte affordable housing development and community center in Chicago’s Humboldt Park neighborhood.
Expected to open in 2018, the $18.5 million project will be completed using nearly $8 million in assistance by the City, consisting in $3.5 million in TIF funding and a $4 million loan. The project will create eight permanent and 26 temporary construction jobs, and upon completion, will serve approximately 2,000 individuals every year.
Located at 3533 W. North Ave., the new La Casa Norte facility will serve homeless families, youth and disabled individuals, offering 25 new affordable housing units and a community center with wraparound services. The five-story mixed-used development will feature studio, one- and two-bedroom units available for households earning less than 30 percent of the area median income.
The community center will offer residents access to a youth drop-in center, community healthcare center, café and food pantry, a housing location and prevention services, as well as an art gallery and meeting space.
