Construction has been completed on Jefferson La Mesa, an apartment community featuring low-income and market-rate apartments as well as live-work units in the San Diego County city of La Mesa, Calif. The development is a joint venture between JPI and the Kitzman family, the long-standing owners of the property.

The apartment community is situated on a nearly five-acre parcel that once served as home to automobile, recreational vehicle and motorcycle businesses at the corner of Baltimore Drive and University Avenue in downtown. The four-story, luxury apartment community features 230 apartment homes.

While issues certainly surfaced along the way, JPI was fortunate to have San Diego city officials and staff who treated us as partners as we worked together to find solutions,” Rosie Cooper, executive vice president & regional managing partner for JPI’s Western Region, told Multi-Housing News. “JPI has had its eye on the city of La Mesa for some time now.”

Jefferson La Mesa will feature studio, one-, two- and limited three-bedroom apartments spread over 205,000 net rentable square feet.

Among the features and finishes of apartments will be upscale kitchens with islands and SMART home technology. Heading the list of common-area amenities will be a two-story fitness center with yoga room and cycling studio.

Jefferson La Mesa residents will find themselves within walking distance of both the city’s rehabilitated downtown district and its La Mesa Boulevard Trolley Station. From that station, they will be able to conveniently reach a number of San Diego employment hubs, as well as shopping centers, restaurants and entertainment zones.
