Joint Venture Developing Student Housing in Savannah
The walkable community is located near the Savannah College of Art and Design.
Savannah, Ga.—CampusWorks, Kaplan Residential and the McKinney Fund & Co. have started work on The Blake, a student housing development in Savannah, Ga. The joint venture partners plan to complete the property in time for the fall semester of 2016, and recently, CampusWorks tapped Greystar Student Living to manage The Blake.
The 270-bed Blake will be developed on a 1.12 acre site at 536 Selma St. close to Savannah’s historic downtown, but more importantly, less than a mile away from Savannah College of Art and Design and its artistic community. The college has an annual enrollment of about 11,000.
The Blake will offer one- to five-bedroom units ranging from 600 square feet to 1,986 square feet. Units will be fully furnished and include kitchen pantries, private bathrooms with every suite, walk-in closets, washers and dryers in each unit, and 9- to 10-foot ceilings. Some floor plans will include private balconies with lounge seating.
Common amenities will include a clubhouse with a reception lobby, studio space, a fitness center and tanning beds. There will be a rooftop lounge and two courtyards featuring a resort-style swimming pool. WiFi will be available throughout the property and there will be study lounges on each floor.
The community will also include underground parking, first-floor retail space, a cycle center and on-site bicycle storage. Its location, according to Walk Score, is Very Walkable—with a Walk Score of 85 out of 100, and Very Bikable—with a Bike Score of 88 out of 100.
