Austin, Texas—Local developer Johnson Trube & Associates announced the progression of its construction of SKYLOFT, a 22-story, Class-A, luxury student-housing development located one block from the University of Texas at Austin campus.

“SKYLOFT is special for a lot of reasons,” Johnson Trube partner Edward Johnson said. “We believe this is, hands down, one of the best locations for a student-housing development in the country. It’s perfectly situated on the corner of West 23rd and Nueces streets, just a minute from campus, offering incredible views of the UT Tower and downtown. No other location in the area will give students all of this.”

The project will be located at 507 W. 23rd St. thanks to a recent vote by the Austin City Council to move the historic Dabney-Horne home currently on the site.

SKYLOFT will consist of four below-grade parking levels and 18 residential floors offering 212 units with a mix of one- to four-bedrooms totaling 677 beds. A percentage of its units will also be offered as affordable housing.

The development is designed as a luxury student housing community with high-end finishes and top-of-the-line amenities, including a rooftop pool, fitness center, 24-hour study lounges, media room and underground parking.

“SKYLOFT completely aligns with the goals of the University Neighborhood Overlay (UNO) District to bring quality, high-density student housing into the area and to construct it with its surroundings in mind,” said John Trube.

The developer plans to break ground in August 2016, while the opening is scheduled for late July/early August 2018. Project team members include Mark Hart ArchitectureSTG Design and JE Dunn Construction. “As with all of our developments, we have assembled the best team possible to deliver a signature project on time for the UT community,” added Trube, “and this one is no exception.”
