TerraLUX LED EngineBy now most people are familiar with the quality of light and energy efficiency achieved by LED lighting systems. Replacing a building’s incandescent of CFL system has historically been a work-intensive task.

Well, that chore has just gotten a great deal easier thanks to a the first plug & play LED lighting solution from TerraLux Inc. The Line Voltage Linear LED Engine requires absolutely no rewiring or extra hardware, as it connects directly to the mains and requires no electronic driver. The unit is simply installed with three wire nuts and is available for order in a retrofit kit. The kit include all accessories needed included: mounting brackets, screws wire nuts and a UL 1598C Classified (LED retro kit) that allows an electrician to retrofit any fixture on site.

According to TerraLux, installation takes five minutes or fewer. The engine is suited for indoor and outdoor installations in wall sconces, recessed step lights and wall lights, ceiling surface mounted fixtures and outdoor wall packs.

Before and After

But the proof is in the case studies. Take The Residences of Millennium Center, for example. The 60-story, 365-unit condo at 33 W. Ontario Street in Chicago used the system to retrofit 509 sconces. The end result was an annual cost savings of $8,256 on energy bills and $4,351 on maintenance costs (changing bulbs are thing of the past with LEDs). The aesthetic benefit of brighter hallways with an improved lighting quality over the previous fluorescent bulbs was also a plus.
