Hines Breaks Ground on 230-Unit New Haven Project

Bank of America is providing construction financing, with work slated to wrap up by 2022.

Hines has broken ground on The Whit Wooster Square, a 230-unit multifamily project in New Haven, Conn. The development marks Hines’ first foray into the Connecticut rental market. Bank of America is providing construction financing for the project. According to Yale Daily News, construction is expected to wrap up by 2022.

Located at 630 Chapel St., The Whit Wooster Square will replace a former office building and a parking lot. The five-story, two-building property is also slated to include roughly 5,600 square feet of ground-floor retail space. Situated in the Wooster Square neighborhood at the edge of downtown, the community will be within 1 mile of the Yale campus and the Yale New Haven Hospital.

The property will include a mix of studio and one- to three-bedroom units, as well as several two-story loft-style apartments. Units will feature upscale finishes and appliances, while the list of planned amenities includes communal workspaces with private offices, a club room, a social dining room, a roof terrace, a pool and a fitness center.

Hines’ multifamily portfolio encompasses roughly 18,000 units. This week, the company also kicked off work at a 326-unit upscale project in Oklahoma City, developed in partnership with Humphreys Capital.
