High-Speed Rail Summit to be Held in Washington
The U.S. High Speed Rail Association will be hosting a summit in the nation’s capital February 11-13.
The U.S. High Speed Rail Association will be hosting a High Speed Rail Summit in the nation’s capital February 11-13. Held at the Alion Conference City in the southern portion of the District of Columbia, the event will include speakers such as Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood, Deputy Secretary John Porcari, FRA Administrator Joseph Szabo and Amtrak President and CEO Joseph Boardman.
Included in the list of topics and conference sessions will be Amtrak’s NEC Capital Improvement Programs, Hurricane Sandy rail projects and funding, federal funding for high-speed rail, and the political climate surrounding the association’s proposals for a new national network of transportation.
As of now, the association’s plan includes a four-phase construction and delivery process lasting from 2015 to 2030, with the first phase delivering lines from New York City to Washington D.C. and from San Diego to San Francisco, among others. The high-speed trains would run at top speeds of 220 miles per hour.
The opportunities for transit-oriented development around these lines in major multifamily markets are immense, and this dynamic will be covered in full in one of the conference sessions on February 12.
