Houston—Houston Housing Authority (HHA) announced the groundbreaking of a mixed-income development in Independence Heights. The project is slated to begin construction in April 2017, while leasing applications should be open to the public by mid-2018.
The community will consist of 154 units for local families with features to include accessible or adaptable units for disabled residents, solid wood cabinetry, granite countertops and a community room for social gatherings and meetings. Independence Heights Apartments will be located at 302 Crosstimbers St., one mile west of Interstate 45 and one mile north of the 610 Loop.
“The Independence Heights development showcases how city officials are working together to eliminate Houston’s affordable housing shortage,” HHA President & CEO Tory Gunsolley said in a prepared statement. “We’re constantly working to provide affordable options for houstonians, and this development highlights our efforts.”
