Habitat Opens Chicago West Side Community
OC Living, the first residential component of the $200 million Ogden Commons development in Chicago’s West Side North Lawndale community, has opened its doors.

Multifamily developer Habitat has unveiled OC Living, the first residential building at Ogden Commons, a $200 million, mixed-use, mixed-income development in Chicago.
Ogden Commons is located at 1325 S. Washtenaw Ave. in the city‘s North Lawndale enclave. It is the first OC Living structure within the Ogden Commons mixed-use project and will offer 92 residences, 90 percent of which are affordable apartments.
Within the four-story building, renters can select from 23 studios, 60 one-bedroom units and nine two-bedroom apartments. Features and finishes of residences include open floor plans, walk-in closets, fully equipped kitchens, energy-efficient all-electric appliances and programmable digital thermostats. An enclosed rubber-surfaced children’s tot lot with play structures is among the common-area amenities.
Much-needed housing
The property is located steps from the 45,000-square-foot commercial building representing Phase I of the 10-acre Ogden Commons. That structure houses Sinai Health System’s One Lawndale Express Care Clinic, a Wintrust Bank branch, La Cetedral Café & Restaurant and Momentum Coffee.
Among the largest Opportunity Zone projects in Chicago, Ogden Commons was developed to deliver much-needed housing, stores and outpatient health services to the West Side, an historically underserved community.
Once complete, Ogden Commons will feature 120,000 square feet of commercial and retail space and more than 350 mixed-income housing units. The project was developed by Habitat, along with Sinai Health System, Alecko Capital and the City of Chicago.
Bordered by Ogden Avenue to the south, Fairfield Avenue to the west and Rockwell Street to the east, Ogden Commons is being constructed across a number of phases, the second of which is slated for completion in 2026. McHugh Construction and Bowa Construction will be the development’s general contractors, with Bank of America among the other development partners. Last month, Related Midwest broke ground on 400 Lake Shore, a new 72-story luxury tower on Chicago’s lakefront.
