Greenland USA Completes $1B Development in Downtown Los Angeles

The 6.3-acre project’s final component, a 685-unit luxury tower, is expected to open its doors to residents this winter.

Greenland USA has completed the construction of Metropolis, a 6.3-acre, $1 billion development in downtown Los Angeles. The 685-unit THEA at Metropolis, the project’s fourth and final luxury tower, received its temporary certificate of occupancy and is expected to open its doors to residents this winter.

Greenland broke ground on the project in 2014, on the site of a parking lot in the city’s central business district. Today, Metropolis offers more than 1,500 residences, a 350-key boutique hotel and 70,000 square feet of retail space. The development team included JG Neukomm, Gensler, OJB, Woods Bagot and Turner Construction Co.

THEA at Metropolis rises 56 stories at 1000 W 8th St., minutes away from STAPLES Center and L.A. Live. The luxury high-rise features studio and one- to three-bedroom floorplans ranging from 495 to 3,487 square feet. Amenities include a sky park, clubhouse fitness center, yoga studio and business center. Residents also have access to the hotel’s restaurants and lounges.

Situated less than 2 miles from the city center, THEA at Metropolis is adjacent to Interstate 110 Harbor Freeway and Transitway, within walking distance of shops, restaurants and entertainment venues. The location is easily accessible through public transit and Los Angeles International Airport is 15 miles southwest.

Metropolis is 2.5 miles from a 113,600-square-foot mixed-use project located in the Arts District, developed by Platinum Equity. Meridian Capital Group recently secured a $52 million construction loan for this development.
