Gemdale, Blake|Griggs Break Ground on Berkeley Community
The joint venture has started the construction of Blake Street Apartments, an 84-unit transit-oriented development located near the city’s downtown.
Gemdale Properties and Investment, in partnership with Blake|Griggs Properties, has broken ground on Blake Street Apartments, an 84-unit community in Berkeley, Calif. Anton Building Co. is the contractor and Devi Dutta Architecture, Rhoades Planning Group and Chris Ford Landscape Architecture are also part of the project.
Situated at 2035 Blake St., the development is close to major roads such as Freeway 13 and Interstate 580, around 5 miles from downtown Oakland and 13 miles from downtown San Francisco. The property will also be near downtown Berkeley, with the Berkeley BART station located within walking distance. Additionally, the property will offer convenient access to the University of California and Berkeley Campus.
The new five-story development will feature two live-work units, 750 square feet of ground-floor retail space, 68 parking spaces in a basement-level garage and 67 bike parking spaces. Two of the vehicle spaces will be dedicated to car-share spaces and will also include electric vehicle parking stalls.
