Moscow–One of the most iconic hospitality spots in the entire Russian Federation is set for a rebirth as the historic Hotel Moskva has been reopened as the Four Seasons Hotel Moscow. Located near the city’s Red Square, the hotel will offer new amenities and redesigned rooms that aim to preserve the charm of the property. The new Four Seasons joins the recently opened Four Seasons Hotel Lion Palace St. Petersburg, as the new properties operated by the brand in the country.
The 180-key hotel was originally built in the 1930s, and acted as the unofficial site for a number of events that have determined the course of the Soviet Union. The hotel has also been one of the favored venues for international visitors including celebrities and heads of state. Hotel Moskva has reopened under the Four Seasons banner with a number of new features including five restaurants and lounges, as well as an exclusive Spa that’s set to open in early 2015.
The design team in charge of reinventing the Four Seasons Hotel Moscow has made an effort to keep and restore the major design flourishes that characterize the old Hotel Moskva, while adding to original architect Alexei Shchusev’s vision. Richmond International has come up with an overall look that nods to the past aesthetic of the hotel, while introducing contemporary design elements. A birch motif is predominant, with column capitals and scalloped rosette surrounding the chandelier in the hotel’s main ballroom. The glass-enclosed pool area now features handcrafted mosaic tiles. The building’s exterior has been recreated in detail, highlighting the asymmetry between the hotel’s two wings that now surround a glass-topped atrium.
As previously mentioned, the new and improved facility will feature new dining options, handled by Executive Chef David Hemmerle. Four Seasons Hotel Moscow’s signature dining experience is Quadrum, an Italian restaurant located on the second floor of the property, where guests can also find Bystro, featuring Russian and Nordic cuisine. The Moskovsky Bar and the Silk Lounge are also part of the package. Guests will also soon have the option of attending the Amnis Spa at Four Seasons, a 28,000-square foot wellness complex that will feature 14 treatment rooms, including three double suites, a hair salon and nail bar, the Amnis Café and an all-day gym equipped with Life Fitness gear.
