The Pillars awards honor superior achievement in apartment and condominium development, design, marketing and management, and are considered a showcase of future trends. College Vista in San Mateo, Calif., a 44-unit apartment community targeting San Mateo’s community college faculty, is a finalist in the category of Best Affordable Apartment Community (40 percent of the units must be affordable to people earning 60 percent or less of area median income). The developer is Thompson Dorfman Partners of Mill Valley, Calif.The 150-unit Dorado Senior Apartments in Buena Park, Calif. is also a finalist in the category of Best Affordable Apartment Community. The developer is Simpson Housing Solutions LLC of Los Angeles.Vantage of Palo Alto (pictured) in the city of Palo Alto, Calif. is a finalist in the Best Garden/Small Scale Condo Community category. Warmington Homes of Costa Mesa, Calif. is the project’s builder. The 76-unit eco-friendly condominium floor plans range in size from 1,195 to 1,605 sq. ft. The Club at Central Park West in Irvine, Calif. is a finalist in the Best Clubhouse at a Multifamily Community category. The developer is Lennar Urban of Aliso Viejo, Calif. The Club is an 8,019-sq.-ft. private retreat with about 2,500 sq. ft. of covered patios. Amenities include a multi-purpose room, kitchen, loggia bar, fitness facilities, yoga, spa and locker rooms as well as a 3,000-sq.-ft. resort-style pool. Winners of the competition will be announced on April 2, 2008 at the NAHB Multifamily Pillars of the Industry Conference in Colorado Springs, Colo.
