Bethesda, Md.—For the third consecutive year, Walker & Dunlop Inc. was named as the top Fannie Mae DUS Lender by volume.

Fannie Mae was the largest supplier of capital to the multifamily marketplace in 2014, providing $28.9 billion across all asset classes and geographies.

“It’s a huge accomplishment to be ranked No. 1 with Fannie Mae once again,” Willy Walker, Walker & Dunlop’s chairman and CEO, said. “Maintaining this ranking in an increasingly competitive marketplace against some of the world’s largest financial services firms is a huge testament to the Walker & Dunlop team and our partnership with Fannie Mae.”

Nearly 99 percent of the $28.9 billion Fannie Mae provided to the multifamily market last year was delivered through its Delegated Underwriting and Servicing program.

“The scale and continued success we have achieved with Fannie Mae benefits Walker & Dunlop’s clients every day,” Walker said. “And with $30 billion to lend in 2015, Fannie Mae will once again be one of the largest sources of capital to the multifamily sector. And Walker & Dunlop has every intention of remaining Fannie Mae’s largest lending partner.”

DUS relies on shared risk whereby private lenders originate multifamily loans for Fannie Mae and retain some of the credit risk. The DUS program maintained extremely low default rates throughout the financial crisis because both parties have a stake in loan performance. Walker & Dunlop has been a DUS lender since the program’s inception in 1988.
