Let’s face it, apartments are not known for their expansive bathrooms. This is especially true in mid- or high-rise properties. But today’s renter wants quality and location, and they are willing to sacrifice a bit of space in order to get it.

German ceramic and fixture company Duravit has developed a bathtub specifically for the North American market that multifamily and condo designers should check out. Known as the Architec tub, the panel bath is a modern approach to the standard alcove bathtub, and is a perfect solution for achieving high-design in smaller spaces. According to Duravit, the compact tub eliminates costly installation fees and provides a long lasting, easy-to-clean tub with a sleek appearance. Built from high performance acrylic, the Architec tub is a flexible, affordable option for condensed, contemporary spaces.

Design features include a flat apron front and an integral tile flange on three sides that allows for a continuous flow of the front panel to the floor. These features do not just provide aesthetic appeal, but also remove the need for the tub to be tiled in, thus saving time and money. The streamlined shape allows for more efficient and convenient cleaning.

Installation time is further reduced by the incorporation of a foot support system. This element eliminates the need to use additional bedding compound, the material that is applied underneath the base to adhere the tub to the foundation and provide maximum support and even weight distribution.

In addition, the panel tub can integrate a left- or right-hand drain configuration, allowing for increased flexibility in bathroom design.
