Domus Development Plans South Texas Student Housing
Residents will be able to sign individual leases, meaning they're only responsible for the rent of their individual bed, not the entire apartment.
Edinburg, Texas—Domus Development, a student housing development specialist based in Dallas, will break ground in May on Legends Edinburg, a property serving the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley’s Edinburg campus. It will bring 566 beds to the market.
Floor plans will include one-, two- and four-bedroom options. The individual apartments will come fully furnished with appliances, granite countertops, hardwood-style flooring, ceiling fans and full-sized washers and dryers. Residents will be able to sign individual leases, meaning they’re only responsible for the rent of their individual bed, not the entire apartment.
Common amenities include a salt-water resort-style pool, sand volleyball court, study rooms, a clubhouse with a game room, and a computer lounge. The entire property is also equipped with high-speed Wi-Fi, and will employ an on-site maintenance and management staff.
The development will be located on the corner of Chapin St. and Sugar Rd., about a tenth of a mile from the UTRGV Edinburg campus. UTRGV, formed only in 2013 from merging two schools in the University of Texas system, currently has about 29,000 students, with locations in the south Texas towns of Brownsville, Edinburg, Harlingen, McAllen, and Rio Grande City, as well as South Padre Island.
Domus Development has hired Asset Campus Housing (ACH), a major privately held student housing management company, to manage the community. This is the fifth project that Domus Development has tapped ACH to manage and lease up.
