McShane Construction Co. has completed the development of Covington Crossings on behalf of owner Dominion. The 198-unit affordable senior housing community in Covington, Ga., serves residents aged 55 and over.

The Covington City Council approved the project, initially dubbed The Legends of Covington, in January 2019. McShane Construction Co. broke ground on the Martin Riley Associates-designed development the following November.

Dominium revealed plans for long-term ownership, with no immediate plans to sell the asset—as a long-term owner, the company expects to hold on to the property for at least 15 years, The Covington News reported.

Located on 13 acres at 6000 Clark St. SW, the four-story community includes 100 one-bedroom, 82 two-bedroom and 16 three-bedroom apartments. Floorplans range between 700 and 1,235 square feet, available in one-, one-and-a-half or two-bathroom configurations.

Units are rent-restricted, available to seniors earning up to 60 percent of the area median income.

Covington Crossings features a community room equipped with a fireplace, business center, library, theater, fitness center, beauty salon, card and crafts room, courtyard, gazebo, bocce ball court, as well as a grilling and picnic pavilion.

The community is across the street from Newton County Turner Lake Park and is within walking distance of the Turner Lake Road retail corridor, less than a mile from Interstate 20. Downtown Covington is roughly a mile east of the community, while downtown Atlanta is some 35 miles northwest.

McShane Construction Co. is active in other states as well: In July, the company broke ground on a 300-unit project in Charlotte, N.C., while another senior living development is underway in West Dundee, Ill. Both developments are slated for delivery in 2023.
