Chicago—The 42-story luxury high-rise apartment community 73 East Lake, under construction in Chicago’s Loop, has been topped off. The announcement was made by the developer, Chicago-based M&R Development.
Designed by architect Solomon Cordwell Buenz (SCB) and to be managed by RMK Management Corp., 73 East Lake will feature 332 apartments and 178 indoor parking spaces when complete. The building received its groundbreaking in July of last year, and first move-ins are expected this coming spring.
“The luxury rental market is especially strong right now in nearly every major market, including Chicago,” Anthony Rossi, Sr., president of M&R Development and RMK Management Corp., tells MHN. “The city has emerged as a business leader globally, and continues to see positive job growth. Those factors and more made this type of development very attractive to us. We know there continues to be strong demand for ultra-luxury apartments in Chicago, and 73 East Lake will certainly raise the bar in terms of what people can expect from this type of high-end housing.”
He adds that 73 East Lake will be a 180-degree departure from the two-story parking structure formerly occupying the site. “The sophisticated design is ideal for this area, bringing tremendous vibrancy to the block,” he says, noting the building will be “a striking addition that will energize the surrounding space.”
Residences will feature numerous luxury touches, including quartz kitchens with stainless steel Energy Star appliances, designer baths and computer niches.
Other features include full-sized stackable washers and dryers. Residences will range in size from 682 to 1,246 square feet, and extend from studios to two-bedroom floor plans.
The amenity package at 73 East Lake is unlike that of any other Chicago luxury building, Rossi says.
The 9th and 10th floors at 73 East Lake will offer an indoor pool, oversized spa with waterfall, sauna and steam rooms, state-of-the-art fitness center, yoga/Pilates studio, business center and conference room, multi-story cyber cafe, event room, theater and game room.
Thirty-two floors up, the north end of the 42nd floor offers another 2,000-square-foot event room with 18-foot ceilings and views east, west and north. This amenity floor also provides a sundeck with views of the lake and Millennium Park, green roof, barbecue and cabanas.
“Not only will 73 East Lake offer a very impressive menu of amenities, but the fact it includes the penthouse level is an unusual benefit for renters,” Rossi says. “The top floor of an apartment building is typically reserved for the penthouse units, but here all residents will be able to enjoy the sweeping scene of a 42nd story view, and host family and friends to enjoy it as well. This building will be the ultimate address for the urban young professional.”
