Crescent Communities Launches Development on $40M N.C. Community
Crescent Communities has launched development on a $40 million developed called Crescent Main Street in Durham, N.C. The community is located in Durham’s Ninth Street district, with close access to Duke University Medical Campus.

Durham, N.C.—Crescent Communities has launched development on a $40 million developed called Crescent Main Street in Durham, N.C. The community is located in Durham’s Ninth Street district, with close access to Duke University Medical Campus.
Crescent Main Street will include 208 apartments. Amenities will include parking, a health and wellness facility with a private training room, a pet spa and a demonstration kitchen. Outside amenities will include a pool with sundeck, outdoor kitchen and dining room, community fire lounge, rooftop terrace and dog run.
“One of Durham’s charms is its eclectic architectural style, and we’ve designed Crescent Main Street in the same vein so it resembles a neighborhood built over time,” Ben Collins, vice president for Crescent Communities’ Multifamily Group, tells MHN. “With this design we can emphasize the highly-visible corner of Crescent Main Street on 15th and Main streets with a classical representation of Durham in the podium-style design, and we can take a more contemporary structure with the second building. Both buildings reflect the same era, though, creating balance in the overall design.”
The community is being financed by an equity investment by Crescent Communities, and Regions Bank is providing a construction loan. Cline Design Associates of Raleigh is the project and landscape architect, and Historical Concepts of Atlanta is the design consultant. John R. McAdams of Durham is the civil engineer. Vignette Interior Design of Charlotte is the interior designer, and Clancy & Theys Construction of Charlotte is the general contractor.
“The contrast in the design of the two buildings differentiates Crescent Main Street and makes the community stand out in a visual way, and the location, apartment styles and sizes, and luxury amenities set it apart from other apartment options,” Collins says. “The proximity to Duke Medical Campus will be a draw for professionals who want to add convenience to their lives, and they’ll also appreciate the largest apartments in the marketplace. The structured, executive-level parking also creates a more luxurious feel and convenience for residents.”
Crescent Main Street is expected to open in the fall of 2014.
