Corvias Foundation Awards $100,000 in Educational Grants to Military Spouses
Corvias Foundation, a private, charitable foundation and the charitable arm of Corvias Group, has been committed to supporting military families in the pursuit of higher education since 2006.
East Greenwich, R.I.–Corvias Foundation, a private, charitable foundation and the charitable arm of Corvias Group, has been committed to supporting military families in the pursuit of higher education since 2006. This year alone, Corvias Foundation has awarded 20 grants totaling $100,000 to the spouses of active-duty service members.
Since its founding by Corvias Group CEO John Picerne, the Foundation has awarded more than $5.2 million in grants and scholarships to the spouses and kids of active-duty service members.
This year’s recipients are stationed at nine Army and Air Force installations across the United States.
From Edwards Air Force Base in California, Jannette Martinez is a freshman pursuing a Certificate in Medical Billing from the U.S. Career Institute. Also, after working in healthcare for 20 years, Latisha Davis of Eielson Air Force Base in Alaska is pursuing an Associate’s degree in Nursing from the University of Alaska Anchorage.
Four spouses from Fort Bragg in North Carolina received grants this year. Amanda Bechtel is a senior pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Fayetteville State University to eventually help soldiers who suffer from post-traumatic stress. Cindy Himmelhaver is attending Fayetteville Technical Community College to receive an Associate’s degree in Biology. Tiffani James is pursuing a Master’s in Social Work at Edinboro University of Pennsylvania and Tiffany Streeter aspires to be a dental hygienist after attending Central Carolina Community College.
From Fort Polk in Louisiana, Fabersha Flynt plans to educate minority males in higher education after receiving her Doctorate in Education from Northeastern University. Kathrine Garcia is a junior pursing a Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences from Upper Iowa University and would eventually like to attend law school. Amanda Harrison is pursuing a Certificate in Legal Assisting from Auburn University, while on her path to eventually work toward a Master’s in Addiction Therapy.
From Fort Riley in Kansas, Sara Devine is pursuing a Master’s degree in Special Education, as well as a certification in Secondary Education at Kansas State University; Jenna Osterman, a Master’s degree in Social Work from Washburn University; Wendy Therkelsen, an Associate’s degree in Veterinary Technology at Brown Mackie College-Salina; and Leslie Valencia, a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from Wichita State University.
Anne Combs of Fort Rucker in Alabama is pursuing a Master’s degree in Education from Grand Canyon University. Aimee Burnett of Hurlburt Field is attending Northwest Florida State College to attain her Associate’s degree in Nursing.
Based at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, Amber Abernathy is a junior pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Forensic Science from Everest College-Phoenix and Amber McGuire is a freshman pursuing an Associate’s degree in Human Services Management from the University of Phoenix.
Lastly, three spouses at McConnell Air Force Base in Kansas have also received grants. Sarah Bondarev is a junior pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Wichita State University, Ashley LaMothe is pursuing a Master’s degree in Forensic Science from Oklahoma State University Center for Health Sciences, and Alexandra Thomas is pursuing a Master’s in Physician Assistant Studies from Wichita State University.
